A Goodyear Welt shoe or boot is made using a strip of leather that runs along the perimeter of the outsole. The machinery used to produce was invented in 1869 by Charles Goodyear Jr., the son of Charles Goodyear. This is a time-honoured process that allow pairs of shoes to be resoled and is the definite standard for quality shoes.
